About our Center

The Centre Européen du Cheval was created in 2000. It stems from the Government of the Walloon Region (Belgium). The goal of the association is to promote horses as an element of life and of identity in the rural environment, be it through equine research in areas such as locomotion, breeding, reproduction and selection or through sport, tourism and training.

The Centre distinguishes itself as a beacon of excellence available to breeders as well as sporting, scientific and economic stakeholders of the equestrian sector.

With the support of Wallonia

On the Walloon Region's initiative, the Centre distinguishes itself as a support and development tool of the sector. In January 2020, Vice-President and Minister W. Borsus granted the Centre a subsidy shaped as a framework agreement on a 3-year basis in the framework of a global support towards equine breeding.

Tourism and Sport

Mont-le-Soie is located at the heart of one of the most popular tourist regions in Europe : the Belgian Ardennes! Forests and fens as far as the eye can see, villages nestled in enchanting valleys (Vielsalm, Coo, Stavelot, Malmedy, la Roche) and vivid rivers (Salm, Lienne, Ourthe, Amblève) shape its landscapes and day-to-day life. Mont-le-Soie is surrounded by 160km of marked path and there are many opportunities to access itineraries especially designed for horses (RaVel, GR and others). That creates connections with the whole Province of Luxembourg, eastern Belgium (Hautes Fagnes) and even the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The site itself is made out of three sand arenas, one indoor arena, an eventing course, a galloping track- all available both for training and competition purposes.

Expertise

Our team members gather many skills thanks to their training, interests and specialisations: vets specialised in equine locomotion or reproduction, an agronomist, a farrier passionate about equine orthopaedics and technicians whose daily lives follow the rhythm of our stables. On top of their diplomas, with time, our staff have acquired valuable knowledge of the sector and horses in general which allows them to meet our partners' expectations and to carry out the missions entrusted by the Walloon Region.
